BERGAMOT: HOW TO EAT IT
Have you heard about the countless beneficial properties of bergamot , would you like to taste it but don't know how to eat it? Bergamot has a rather bitter taste, some may like it but for others it is certainly not the best. After all, until recently this citrus fruit of Calabrian origin was mainly known for its essential oil: in recent years, however, the sale of bergamot has multiplied, as recent studies have discovered properties such as the reduction of cholesterol, triglycerides, glycemia and cardiovascular risk. BERGAMOT JUICE: PROPERTIES
The easiest way to consume this citrus fruit is to make a nice bergamot juice. However, since, as we said, the flavor is quite sour, you can mix the bergamot juice with the juice of another sweeter citrus fruit (mandarin or navel orange) or even with apple juice. Or, if you don't like mixed flavors, you can dilute the juice with a little warm water and add a little honey.

BERGAMOT: RECIPES
If you intend to dabble in the kitchen, then you should know that there are a thousand ways to use bergamot in the kitchen. For example, you can prepare a bergamot-flavored oil by macerating the peel of this citrus fruit for a month in 250 ml of olive oil. Or, you can prepare delicious first courses such as a nice bergamot-flavored risotto or flavored salmon farfalle. But it doesn't end there: you can cook a good bergamot-flavored lamb or fantastic scallops, and complete the menu with a granita, muffins or biscuits.

BERGAMOT: LIQUEUR
You can prepare a bergamot liqueur in a very simple way, you will need very few ingredients. Here is the recipe!
Ingredients
- 4 bergamots
- 300 g. of sugar
- 500 ml water
- 500 ml of alcohol
Preparation
Peel the bergamots, being careful not to remove the white part.
Let the peels soak in alcohol in an airtight glass container for 10 days. Leave the container in a dark, dry place.
After ten days filter the alcohol.
Prepare the syrup by boiling the water and sugar in a saucepan.
Combine the syrup and filter the mixture into a bottle, leaving it to rest for about 20 days in a dark place.
BERGAMOT: JAM
With bergamot you can also prepare a tasty jam, which you can spread on bread or biscuits, or you can use it to prepare cakes and pies. Let's see the recipe right away!
Ingredients
- 2 kg of bergamots
- 1.6 kg of sugar
- 8 drops of bergamot essential oil
Preparation
Wash the bergamots and peel them with a little of the white part (the peels, if you want, can be used to prepare candied fruit), then peel them to the quick. Cut into pieces.
Place the pieces in a saucepan, add the sugar and cook, stirring occasionally, for about an hour.
Add the bergamot essential oil and do the saucer test: if the drop of jam goes away, continue cooking.
Put the hot jam into sterilized jars, close them well and turn them upside down
