Bitter Oranges Sale
Bitter oranges come from the bitter orange tree, cultivated since ancient times by the Arabs. Bitter oranges have numerous uses both in the food sector (e.g. for the preparation of jams) and in cosmetics and herbal medicine . Due to their sour taste, they are not used for fresh consumption.
How we produce our organic bitter oranges
Our bitter oranges are grown following the organic production method. They do not undergo any treatment after harvesting, so thanks to their genuineness they are also suitable for the use of the peel for the preparation of liqueurs.
Conservation
Our bitter oranges are harvested on the same day of shipment and can last several weeks if stored in a dry and cool environment (veranda, balcony, etc.). However, we recommend using them as soon as possible in the kitchen so as not to lose their characteristics and properties.

Bitter oranges: plant
The bitter orange is a species belonging to the Citrus genus and comes from East Asia. It is probably a hybrid between pomelo and mandarin even if it grows spontaneously. It is characterized by a notable resistance and good adaptability if compared to other citrus species, for this reason in the past it was widely used in citrus cultivation as a rootstock. The bitter orange is also characterized by the presence of thorns on the branches, dark green leaves with winged petiole and particularly fragrant flowers (used for the preparation of liqueurs). The fruit is of medium size, has a wrinkled and not very soft skin of a very bright orange color, while the segments, rich in seeds, have a particular and sour flavor.
Bitter oranges: use
As already mentioned, bitter orange has been the most widely used rootstock in citrus growing thanks to its good adaptability and productivity.
In the food sector, the fruits are used to make jams (such as the famous English marmalade), candied fruit and to produce liqueurs by macerating the peels in alcohol.
Bitter orange also produces essential oil, used in the perfume industry, like that obtained from bergamot , but also in the herbal field, thanks to its anti-inflammatory and disinfectant properties.
